AT A GLANCE

Where are cooling fans used? In actively cooled electronic equipment, fans move air through the space around components. The right fan depends on the installation, power supply, airflow and pressure requirements, noise limits and operating environment.

Security & surveillance equipment cooling

Review compact installation space, acoustic requirements and service access in security equipment that uses active air cooling.

NVR and DVR recording systems, security inspection equipment and surveillance control enclosures can have different cooling requirements. Start with the components that need heat removal and the available inlet and outlet positions. MEXN can discuss compact DC axial fans, micro fans or blower options against the actual enclosure layout and power supply.

Selection priorities

  • Installation & accessCheck mounting positions, connector access and clearance around nearby components.
  • Noise & duty cycleDefine acceptable operating noise and the equipment’s expected working pattern.
  • Air path & maintenanceInclude the position of vents and any restrictions that could affect airflow.
OPTIONS TO DISCUSS
  • DC axial fans
  • Micro fans
  • DC blowers

Cooling fans for network & telecom equipment

Define the enclosure airflow path, pressure requirements and fan control interface for your network or communication equipment.

Circuit boards, connectors and enclosure openings all shape the available airflow path in network equipment. Review the supply voltage, fan dimensions and operating conditions before narrowing the product options. MEXN can discuss DC axial fans or DC blowers, with model-specific PWM speed control, FG feedback or RD rotation detection where required.

Selection priorities

  • Airflow through the enclosureConsider the complete path past boards and components, including intake and exhaust restrictions.
  • Control & monitoringSpecify the required control signals, feedback outputs and connector pinout.

Outdoor enclosure & smart city equipment cooling

Review the enclosure, environmental exposure, filtration and maintenance requirements together before selecting an outdoor equipment fan.

An outdoor information system needs an application review that includes the environment around the enclosure. Share expected ambient conditions, exposure, the arrangement of filters and the maintenance plan. MEXN can discuss AC, DC or EC fan candidates against these requirements, with protection features and documents checked for the specific model.

Selection priorities

  • Environment & exposureDescribe expected temperature conditions, dust or moisture exposure and installation location.
  • Enclosure & filtrationInclude vent layout, filters and the restrictions they introduce to the air path.
  • Project documentationState the protection features and model-specific documents required for the equipment.
OPTIONS TO DISCUSS
  • DC fan options
  • AC fan options
  • EC fan options
Send for review

Operating environment, enclosure and filter layout, supply voltage and required protection documents.

An outdoor application does not make every fan waterproof. Confirm the selected model’s features and documentation.

How to select a cooling fan
for your equipment.

Start with the application, not a single catalog number. Use the following inputs to narrow the product options, then confirm the selected fan’s installation fit and operation in the intended equipment.

Cooling fan selection: what to provide and why it matters
Selection inputWhat to provideWhy it matters
Installation spaceFrame size, thickness, mounting holes and clearance.Dimensions narrow the options, but do not confirm electrical or performance compatibility.
Power supplyRated voltage, operating range and available current or power.AC, DC and EC describe electrical or motor-related choices; each model has its own specification.
Airflow & pressureAirflow target, performance curve, filters and enclosure restrictions. The useful operating point depends on the fan and the resistance of the installed air path.
Noise & environmentAcoustic target, ambient conditions, orientation and duty cycle.Evaluate these requirements under the conditions defined for the equipment.
Control & connectionsPWM, feedback signals, connector, cable and pinout.Function availability and signal compatibility must be checked for the selected model.
Project stageReference model, sample needs, quantity and target schedule.Clarify whether the next step is standard model selection, adaptation or development review.

Maximum airflow is not the installed airflow.

The useful operating point depends on both the fan’s airflow–pressure characteristics and the resistance of the equipment air path. Review the performance curve and confirm the fan in the actual installation.

04APPLICATION QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Cooling fan
application FAQs

Direct answers to common equipment selection questions. For model-specific dimensions, electrical values or performance data, contact MEXN with your requirements.

Ask about your equipment
What equipment applications can MEXN review?

MEXN can discuss cooling fan requirements for security, network and telecom, power electronics, display systems and industrial electronic equipment. The company profile also includes refrigeration, ventilation, intelligent appliances, lighting, multimedia and medical electronics. Suitability is reviewed for the specific model and equipment conditions.

How do I choose a cooling fan for my equipment?

Start with the application, installation space and power supply. Add the airflow and pressure targets, noise requirements, operating conditions and control interface if known. Use those requirements to narrow the available models, then validate the selected configuration in the intended equipment.

Can you help if I do not know the required airflow?

Send the equipment layout, available fan space, operating conditions and a reference model if available. MEXN can discuss the information needed to narrow the options. Additional equipment data or testing may be needed before a final recommendation can be made.

Should I use an axial fan or a blower?

Review the airflow path, outlet arrangement, available space and required operating point. Fan type alone does not establish suitability. The selected model’s airflow–pressure performance and the installation conditions must be considered together.

Can I replace a cooling fan with another model of the same size?

Matching dimensions is only one part of the review. Check voltage, current, mounting details, connector pinout, airflow and pressure performance, control signals and operating conditions. Evaluate the replacement in the equipment before approving it.

Can I use PWM speed control or fan speed feedback?

These functions are available on applicable models. Include your control and monitoring requirements so the supported interface, signal levels and wiring can be checked. MEXN’s catalog includes PWM, FG, RD, soft start and temperature-control functions.

Can your fans be considered for outdoor equipment?

Share the operating environment, enclosure design, filters and protection requirements. Model-specific features and documents need to be reviewed for the application. Requirements for an outdoor enclosure should not be assumed to apply to every fan model.

Can I evaluate a fan sample in my equipment?

Discuss the selected model, sample requirements and evaluation criteria with MEXN. Sample availability, charges and timing are confirmed during the project review. Check installation fit and operation in your equipment before approving a production configuration.

What should I include in an application inquiry?

Include the equipment type, fan location, available space, voltage, known performance targets, operating conditions and expected quantity. A reference fan, dimensional drawing or enclosure layout is useful. You can start the discussion before every parameter has been defined.
